Why loyalty points

A loyalty programme instead of a discount war: a point balance keeps working.

Winning a new customer costs a multiple of serving an existing one a second time. Discount codes bring short-term turnover but no loyalty. A complete points system with a growing balance and reachable rewards gives exactly the reason to return that vouchers lack - and raises the repeat purchase rate.

More repeat orders

The balance works on every visit, without you giving a discount again.

Larger carts

Someone just short of a reward is more likely to add one more item.

Predictable cost

Validity, a cap per order and minimum order values set the frame.

No external system

Everything stays in your shop. No cloud, no data sharing.

Earning points

Earning loyalty points: you decide what earns them

For every order the points system awards points according to your formula. Whether the calculation uses the amount paid or the original price, how it rounds and whether shipping costs count is up to you. The points only turn valid after a waiting period you set - optionally only once the order is completed as well.

  • Action bonuses for registration, newsletter and birthday
  • Point promotions as a multiplier or a fixed bonus, with a time window and a product group
  • Target groups such as birthday customers, newsletter subscribers or inactive customers
  • Milestones that add something on top, once or repeatedly
  • Your own flow action: credit points for any occasion the Flow Builder knows - without programming

Loyalty tiers · expansion

Loyalty tiers: whoever buys more, earns faster

ENTERPRISE

A ladder of tiers can be laid over the points programme - as a VIP programme or a customer club. Every tier has a point threshold, a minimum number of orders and a multiplier on the earn rate. A tier is only reached when both come together: a single large purchase does not make a regular. And redeeming points never costs the tier - it is measured by what was earned in total.

Visible progress

The tier ladder in the customer account shows what is missing to the next tier - in points and in orders.

Fair up and down

A rolling window or a lifetime score; a drop comes with a grace period, not overnight.

Can be switched off

If you prefer it simpler, deactivate the tiers - the programme then runs purely on points and rewards.

Redemption happens where the buying decision is made: in the cart, without a code and without a detour. As a freely chosen cash discount through the slider, as a free reward, or as both in the same order. A check in the background prevents more being redeemed than is available.

  • Rewards are real products from your own range at a point price - with normal stock, shipping and invoice
  • Minimum order value per reward optional, visibility controllable through Shopware rules

The journey

A year with a regular customer

This is how your customers experience the loyalty programme. You set all of it up once.

MARCH
First order

Your customer sees on the product what they get

"With this product you earn 578 loyalty points" sits on the product page and in the listing - the running double-points promotion is already included.

+828 points
For the whole order of 289 euros, including the promotion "250 points per order"; pending at first
+ 14 days
Points turn valid

The email arrives on its own

As soon as the points turn valid, the credit email goes out. It runs through the Flow Builder of your shop; the text and the timing are yours.

You define the waiting period and the order state for the release (default: 14 days, state "Completed")
JUNE
★ Gold tier reached

The promotion is the moment that matters

With the third order both criteria are met: more than 500 points collected and three orders completed. From now on they earn 1.2× on everything.

The tier appears in the account and in the cart; the congratulation email goes out automatically
SEPTEMBER
Birthday

An occasion that has nothing to do with the range

Points for the birthday, plus a promotion that counts double on that day if you want. Both run automatically through rules you set once.

+100 points
The default value, freely configurable - as are the bonuses for registration and newsletter
NOVEMBER
Redeemed

A slider instead of a voucher code

They pull the slider to 1,200 points and add a free reward. The balance is checked automatically - more than is available cannot be redeemed.

− 12.00 €
Cash discount, reward or both together
NEXT YEAR
Expiry reminder

And the circle closes

Before their oldest points expire after a year, an email reminds them. A strong reason to come back - which is exactly what the programme is built for.

You define the validity and the reminder lead time (default: 365 days, 14 days ahead)
What it costs

What does a loyalty programme cost? Do the maths with your own figures.

One point per euro and 100 points for one euro of discount sound harmless. What that means for your figures depends on two things: how many points are actually redeemed and how long they stay valid. You decide both - the calculator beside this plays it through live.

  • Points outstanding are on the dashboard at any time, including their euro value - also for a provision and for your accounting
  • Validity caps the liability, with a reminder email before expiry
  • Maximum per order caps the discount of a single order

Defines the euro value of a point and therefore the provision. Large numbers feel like more than they cost.

Lowers the liability noticeably; points not redeemed expire. Creates the reason to come back - especially with a reminder email.

You set the point price per reward, independent of its retail price. A reachable reward gives the programme a concrete goal.
Traceable

A point account that cannot drift apart

Most systems keep a counter on the customer. This plugin keeps an account: every credit, every redemption, every cancellation and every expiry is a booking of its own with a timestamp and its calculation. The balance is not stored but computed from the bookings on every request. That way it cannot drift.

Cancellation and expiry

Run as counter-bookings, not as a correction of a number.

Manual correction

For goodwill and prize draws - with a reason, an internal note and the user who made it.

05 Dec   correction, goodwill+500

828 + 512 + 966 + 744 + 100 − 1,200 + 500 = 2,450. The account always adds up - the pending credit only counts after its release.

Customer loyalty in Shopware

No SaaS, no external system: deeply integrated into Shopware

External loyalty platforms process your customer data on someone else's servers and cost extra every month. This plugin uses the tools Shopware already brings instead.

Rule builder

Point balance and loyalty tier are available as conditions - for shipping methods, payment methods, promotions and reward visibility.

Flow Builder

An action of its own for crediting points, plus all programme emails as editable flows: credit, expiry reminder, goal, tier, birthday.

Per sales channel

Most settings and the activation apply per sales channel - every channel can be switched separately.

Full data sovereignty

Runs entirely in your shop - no external services, no data sharing, no extra platform fee.

Setting up

Three steps to your own points programme

STEP 1

Install the plugin

From the Shopware Store, like any extension. The free version is enough to try it out.

STEP 2

Run the assistant

The setup assistant walks through earn rate, conversion and the most important decisions - with sensible defaults.

STEP 3

Activate per sales channel

Switch the programme on, done. Rewards, promotions and tiers you add whenever you want.

All storefront texts exist in German and English and can be adjusted through Shopware snippets - down to the question of how formally your shop addresses its customers.

Common questions

Common questions about the Shopware loyalty programme

What is a loyalty programme in an online shop?

A loyalty programme (also called a bonus or rewards programme) rewards customers for their purchases: every order earns loyalty points that can later be exchanged for a discount or for rewards. Unlike a voucher, a points system does not work once but across the whole customer relationship - the growing balance is a lasting reason to buy in the same shop again. In Shopware such a programme can be added with a plugin, without any development of your own.

How many points per euro make sense?

One point per euro with 100 points for one euro of discount is common - that equals one percent off and leaves room for promotions and rewards. Those are also the plugin defaults; rate, conversion and rounding are yours to set, as is whether the calculation uses the amount paid or the original price.

When do the points become usable for customers?

Not straight away. Points arise with the order as pending and only turn valid after a waiting period you define (default: 14 days), and optionally only in the order state "Completed". That way points from an order that could still be cancelled or returned are not redeemable.

What happens on a cancellation or return?

While the points are still pending they simply fall away with the cancellation. If they are already valid, the reversal runs as a counter-booking that stays visible in the history. The balance is never overwritten but recalculated from all bookings.

Do points expire at some point?

If you want them to. You set a validity (default: 365 days from the credit), and before expiry a reminder email goes out if you wish - 14 days ahead by default. That caps the open liability and brings customers back to the shop. Points expiry belongs to the Business plan.

Do I keep the cost under control?

Yes. The validity caps the balance (from Business upwards), a maximum per order caps the discount of a single order, and rewards can require a minimum order value. The dashboard shows at any time how many points are outstanding and what they would be worth in euros - also as a basis for a provision and for your accounting.

Do I need the loyalty tiers?

No. The programme runs completely on points and rewards. The loyalty tiers are the Enterprise expansion for shops that want to reward frequent buyers on top - a VIP programme with a rising earn rate. They can be switched off at any time.

Can customers redeem a discount and a reward together?

If you allow it, yes. A cash discount through the slider and a free reward are possible in the same order. A check in the background makes sure both together fit the balance.

Do guests without a customer account earn points?

No. Points hang on a customer account - otherwise there would be nobody to own them. A guest order does not collect. That is at the same time a good argument for your customers to create an account.

Can I exclude customer groups or steer the programme per sales channel?

Yes, both. Customer groups can be excluded from the programme, dealers with their own terms for example. The essential settings apply per sales channel, and the programme can be activated or switched off for each channel individually.

Can I credit points by hand?

Yes. In the customer tab you book with a reason and an internal note, positive or negative - for goodwill, a prize draw or as a thank-you after a product review. Every manual booking carries the user who made it and stays visible in the history.

I already run a points programme - can I take balances over?

Existing balances can be transferred per customer as a manual booking with a reason; there is currently no automatic bulk import. For manageable customer numbers that works well; for very large balances talk to us before the switch.

Which emails does the programme send?

Points credited, points expiring soon, goal reached, tier reached and birthday. All of them run through the Flow Builder of your shop and are free to change in text, condition and timing (programme emails from Business upwards). An unsubscribe link takes customers out of the programme emails permanently on request - with no sign-in at all.

Is data transferred to an external service?

No. The loyalty programme runs entirely inside your Shopware shop, emails through the Flow Builder of your shop. There is no cloud, no account with a third party and no data sharing - unlike SaaS loyalty platforms.

Which Shopware versions does the plugin support?

Shopware 6 in the versions currently supported, maintained continuously - for self-hosted shops. The exact version details are kept up to date in the store listing.

What is included in the free version?

The complete start: earning points (as pending points), the account page and history in the storefront, the admin dashboard, the setup assistant, manual bookings and one definable reward. Redeeming requires the Starter plan; points collected until then do not expire and are released retroactively with the upgrade.

The next purchase begins with the last one.

Installed free of charge, earn rate set, rewards handed out whenever you want.
